Airline Food Design

As part of the Food Design Master at SPD Milano, we collaborated with deSter on a project focused on the design of tableware for Business and First Class airline service. The brief: to develop a set of elements that enhance the dining experience in a high-altitude, premium context.
The project began with a visit to Gate Gourmet at Malpensa Airport, where students explored the behind-the-scenes logistics of in-flight catering. This real-world insight informed the design process, balancing functional constraints with experiential goals.
The outcome is a range of proposals that, with food at the center, rethink the onboard table as more than just a service surface—turning it into an integrated part of the passenger experience. Materiality, interaction, and context were key drivers in shaping concepts aligned with comfort, space optimization, and brand identity.
