The Summit Pintxo

A “pintxo” is a typical snack from the Basque Country. There are many kinds of pintxos and all kinds of pintxo bars.

The idea was to create a system whereby different pintxo bars could make a special one during the week of a summit meeting of art critics and curators in the city of San Sebastián. The system initially proposed that the barman would be the curator, as he would have to decide on his three best pintxos –they could just as well be his three favourites– or his three best-selling pintxos, or just as well the three that interested him for economic reasons, all to be decided in line with his own criteria. These three pintxos would then be put into a blender and mixed, as a sort of test to define their contemporary quality, since dong this involves breaking a taboo. Finally, with the resultant mix, the new pintxo would be made, “the summit pintxo”.
